Make Your Own Water Table

What is it with kids and water?
My girls love to make a splash!!

Whenever they're fussy (no matter what season),
I say, "time for some water!"

It can be in the form of a sprinkler, the wading pool,
a slip-n-slide in the backyard,
the kitchen sink full of soapy water,
sand and water table on the deck,
a hot bath, or a shower with mom...

On cold winter days,
I've even set up an under-bed storage box full of water
(and a mini wading pool once!) inside the house
as a temporary water table.

My kids saw the fancy new water tables
at the toy store and you can imagine their reaction...
I thought to myself, hey I can make that!

So here you have it,
our home-made water table.
Four plastic milk crates + our mini wading pool =
tons of fun for two little girls
and one happy mama.

I'm doing this right away! I've been wanting some sort of water table for awhile now...

Your water table is even better than the ones I've seen available to buy. We had one years ago when my son was younger and it was much too small. the wading pool is an excellent idea.

That's a great idea! I've been wanting to get my girl a water table, but geez, 70 bucks for a piece of plastic seems a little much. Or maybe it's just me?

I really like your blog. I have it bookmarked to come back and peruse some more when I have more time.

I love to create, but most of the time don't have enough brain power left to think of something creative, so I've become good at implementing other peoples ideas.

Thanks for the inspiration! I especially like your explorer's gift package!

Blessings,
Kimberly

Love, love, love it! I've tried setting up plastic bins on my deck to play with and my 2 year olds climb inside them... even though they don't really fit. It's ridiculous! I need the height! I'm picking up milk cartons tomorrow!

We have been doing something similar at my house too - after my daughter got jealous of her friend's "real water table." I'll have to incorporate our pool into it so the table is really, really big! Great ideas - love it!

Excellent idea! Just shows what we can do with a little imagination... I LOVE it when we click that we don't have to *buy* what we need... we can make something similar just as nice, if not, nicer with what we already have. And, when the kids need a break from the water table, it can become a pool again, the crates, beds for their dolls etc... much better than a store bought water table that can only be a water table. Thank you so much for sharing this on Friday's Nature Table.
Blessings and magic.

I was thinking about building a PVC one but I love the idea that I don't have to invest in something that has dual purpose. Thanks for the idea!

Small wading pools like this can be purchased at a number of stores here in the US in the spring time. Check Walmart or Toys R Us. This was a baby size pool so it's smaller. You can even by small "pet" pools at pet stores (intended for dogs to cool off in the sumer!)

The milk cartons can also be found at a number of places like office supply stores (Staples) or Walmart in the office supply aisle, or during the "back to school college" sales at stores like Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond.

I don't have an exact price for this set up, I already owned the milk cartons and the baby pool. Good luck!
