The last project from Daddy Camp
was a huge hit.
The girls made custom
garden stepping stones
for our garden.
They re-cycled empty boxes
to use as the molds
for the cement (genius!!)
My sweet hubby mixed up a batch
of quick-drying cement on the deck,
(Hey! Why is that box right on top of my outdoor rug!)
he poured it into the boxes,
then the girls added glass stones.
I heard so much giggling out on the deck,
I had to wander downstairs and go investigate.
I grabbed my camera and documented
the project -- they did a fantastic job.
We have plenty of concrete mix leftover
and plan to repeat this project a few more times!!
(I want to try sea shells and buttons next time...
and maybe plastic bottle caps?)
They put them out in the sun to dry.
Such a fun and easy project
and cheaper than one of those
make your own stepping stone kits!
My cutie-pie campers!

we make these alot for the grandparents they love them and can always find places for them and are always asking for more! :)
great daddy camp!
Your garden stones look fabulous!! I'm so glad you did this, and thanks so much for the link! :-)
Whenever I see this type of project I recall a disastrous stepping stone activity hosted by one of the moms in my former MOMS Club. She bought super fast curing concrete and the kids couldn't get their decorations in fast enough (before it set!) LOL
We got some decorations in ours but when it dried it cracked in half! :(
I'm glad your stepping stones were successful! :)
That's so sweet your husband does so much! I've made these with my nieces- they are so fun!
Awesome! I had this same idea and was Googling for more information, so thanks for showing me how! Can't wait to get started on ours now... I am also hoping to use mosaic tiles and mosaic mirror squares too... and maybe add colour to the cement mix?
Do you coat or line the boxes with anything, so the stones don't come out with cardboard on them? Maybe it doesn't stick or does it? Great idea!! Thank you
Did you buy your quick dry cement from lowes? Home depot?
I can't remember which hardware store we bought the quickcrete but we only shop at Lowes or Home Depot so it would be one of them! I'm guessing they both carry it!
Warmly,
MaryLea
Do you coat the boxes with anything? :)
Did not have to coat the stones with anything. They pop right out!
Can you give me an idea how much cement you mixed and the number of stones it made? I want to use this for my kids class as a Mother's Day gift but I will have to mix the cement before class.
Thanks.
They only used part of the bag maybe a third to make the three stepping stones. You can't pre-mix it too far in advance or it will set up and harden. I would recommend recruiting some parent/adult volunteers to help with this one if you're trying to do it with a whole class! You are very brave to do this project at school with a whole class of kids!
Good luck!
