The girls and I made our own set of
sensory balls.
They were very simple and the girls love them!
We filled purple balloons with
rice,
noodles,
clean fish gravel,
cotton batting,
and
beads.
We made two of each kind.
Then we took turns exploring our sense of touch
by "feeling" each ball to make matches.
I was going to call them "fun bags"
but realized that probably isn't vocabulary
I need my girls using at school
(or grandma's house!)
I didn't want them to show up and
ask the teacher where her fun bags are!

Funny things words you want to use and cannot because they have a negative connotation. See, even thought the word "balls" makes me giggle, fun bags seem appropriate for your sensory balls. See, there is the word. Giggle, giggle giggle.

A great idea! I used to make these for each of the kids in my class and left them in baskets in the center of the tables. They were allowed to play quietly with them during verbal instruction. It helped calm lots of other fidgety behavior!
I love these, and I was laughing so hard when you mentioned "fun bags"! I was thinking about making a set of sensory balls for Emily, but didn't really know what to fill them with, so thank you for all the ideas!!
That's a good idea. The fabric swatches Montessori uses can be a bit boring and mine aren't fond of the blindfold. Although with some of the comments about the differences between my 3yo girl's and 2yo boys anatomy, I may have to think of yet another name for this!
