Okay, so this is more like "First Grade At Home" than
"Preschool At Home" but both of my girls like to play with it.
The Frog Princess is getting the most benefit (as the newest reader in the house)
but the Mini-Saurus is learning her alphabet
and wants to be included in whatever her big sister is doing!
I saw this idea over at the Snail's Trail blog and it was too perfect for words!

An educational game with letters, paint samples and rainbow colors?
I'm in and so are my girls.

I used my square (CM) scrapbooking punch, my trusty sharpie,
and some lovely paint samples from Sears.
Oh...word families, how I love thee.
I may need to make one for her first grade classroom.
Do you think her teacher would like one for Christmas?

That is an awesome idea!! Love it! I think it's Sherwin Williams that has the large pre-cut square samples too, for those that don't have a cutter.

I tried going to the Snail's Trail blog so I could get her great lists of phonograms, consonants, word blends, diagraphs, and word families - however you have to be invited to see her blog and I have no idea where to go to ask to be invited. WHere else can I go to get the lists?
I'm sorry her blog switched over to private....I found another blogger via pinterest who also made the paint chip cards and she took a photo of the whole set so you could use it as a list...however, it appears that she also took down her blog. What a fantastic idea! I have a habit of collecting those free paint chip cards. Have you seen how Home Depot now has those adorable leaf-shaped sample cards (along with traditional shaped) and they have the itty bitty hole at the top for a plastic ring--AND they give out the little black plastic rings too, so you can group a whole rainbow of color together?!?! We go to Lowes more often so I did not know about this awesomeness until recently. Anyway, I about died and went to heaven when I found them, and definitely took home a LOT o' COLOR samples that day, LOLOL =]
I love this idea! I am a soon-to-be elementary teacher and I am making these for my classroom. I am running in to trouble with the sharpie writing on the paint strips. Did you have this problem? It is like the paint strips are drying up the ink! I have made about ten strip pairs and two of my sharpies will no longer write. Any suggestions?

I LOVE this idea! I am a soon-to-be elementary teacher and I am making this for my future classroom! Unfortunately, I am running in to some sharpie issues. My sharpies have only been able to write a couple letters at a time on the strips. Then is it like the ink dries out. Did you have this problem? I have made about 10 pairs and I already have two dead sharpie markers. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with mine, there must be something on the finish of the paint chips that fights with the Sharpies. I let my sharpie "rest" and was able to resume writing. I guess you could use scrapbook letter stickers instead. I'm not really sure what causes this problem but I know I've had mixed results too...Not sure if I've used different brands or colors (like blue) Might be worth a shot!
