* Birthday Party Highlights: Fishy Birthday Party

Since we're in full blown birthday party mode around here,
I thought you might enjoy seeing photos from one of our old birthday parties.

This fish party from 2006 was part of the inspiration for this year's Pirates and Mermaids party.

Today's post is a blast from my pre-blog past!
This is the Frog Princess' third birthday party from 2006.
She wanted a fish theme.
She was really into Finding Nemo at the time and begged us to get a fish tank.

As her friends arrived, they sat down to the craft table
in our kitchen and got to work decorating paper fish.

We had office supply store dot stickers, markers, and crayons.
(all of our guests were 2 and 3 year olds so we kept it simple)

After the children decorated their fish, we blindfolded them
and played Pin the Fish on the Fish Tank.

The Frog Princess helped me make the fish tank out of a sheet of poster board
with blue and yellow tissue paper.

Then, we headed down to the basement for some Fishing!
I cut out craft foam fish, sea horses, and octopi.

They had colored paper clips on their mouths and the fishing poles
were made from cardboard wrapping paper tubes with yarn and magnets.

As you can imagine, this was a very popular activity (especially in March!)

Here is the fish bowl cake
(9" round cake pan) I made for her party. Gummy fish, fruit roll-up sea weed,
and graham cracker sand.
Still one of her favorite birthday cakes.

My little Frog Princess turning three!

We put some glass bowls in the center of the table
with real water and plastic fish/plants in them.

The cardboard fish tank.
The kids had a blast playing with this and the moms had a great time taking photos.

We had a few bean bag fish the kids played in the tank with
but mostly they had fun playing peek-a-boo with us!

The Frog Princess helped me paint the box blue and yellow.
Then I added the sea weed and critters.
We even printed out a few fish on my color printer, cut them out, glued them on
and added googly eyes!

Favors at the end of the party included craft foam fish and a real fish net
(the kind from the pet store you scoop fish out of a tank with) to play with in the bath tub.

A custom, homemade coloring book, and a small plastic fish bowl
with a bean bag fish.

Your parties look amazing! I think one of the funnest parts of having a party is how much fun kids have helping to prepare the party. As my kids got older the bigger kids did face painting and organized the games and crafts for the little ones.

You are so cool! Where were you when my kids were three? Good job, mom!

All of the guests at any of your parties would have an absolute ball and rave about the party (for ages) afterwards.

The indoor fishing games are such a novel idea.

I can see why decorating the cardboard boats were so successful. What a great idea to include such unique and fun craftivities (love your word) at your parties. They would make such speical keepsakes for your guests too.

Your children must get so excited before their birthdays helping you plan such amazing ideas.

As always, your projects turned out awesome. I wish I could paint and draw as well as you. Your murals are always fantastic. Where did you find the gummi fish? My daughter is having a fishy party later this month, and I can't seem to find any...

Thanks Lisa! I got the gummy fish from two different sources, I found "Finding Nemo" gummies in the kid snack food area at Walmart (eventhough that party was 4 years ago I saw Nemo gummie snacks at our Walmart last week!)

I also used Swedish Fish candies which I think I found at our CVS or at World Market in the candy aisle. I'll copy this message in an email to you in case you don't check back to read this comment! Would love to see how your fish party turns out- send me photos or a link if you blog about it!!
