The Frog Princess "E" had to make a visual aid and prepare an oral presentation
about a Patriotic Symbol or Washington DC landmark
over spring vacation for her First Grade Class.
She decided to make a diorama, the apple does not fall far!
"E" got to work building this diorama of the
Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin.
(Note: It took two days because the dough was too wet
and wouldn't dry! -- She ended up having to take it to
school on one of my plastic snack trays because it was too damp and heavy!)
Since we live close to DC, we're planning to take the girls paddle boating
at the Tidal Basin when they're a bit bigger.
I think she did a great job, (especially since she's only 7)!
I love her use of
Red, White, and Blue
She used some of our homemade salt dough
for the "ground" then printed out a photo of the memorial on our computer printer.
She collected sticks in our backyard
to use as the Cherry Tree trunks
and she glued bits of pink tissue paper to them as the blossoms.
Then she built a
paddle boat out of legos,
added some blue cellophane "water" and painted everything with blue and green
washable tempera paint.
I love her lego people relaxing on their picnic blanket, enjoying the spring weather!
