After all of that shell collecting at the beach last week,
we had to come home and make some crafts with our new treasures.
Such a lovely way to remember our beach trip and so much nicer than store-bought knick-knacks.
We sorted our shells and drift wood on some newsprint
then got to work making some mobiles with some of our rainbow yarn.
We hung one up in the backyard, under the trees in the corner the girls call
"Nature School" (it's their secret club)
This one is hanging in "E"s room, over her desk.
Such beautiful colors....
It makes the sweetest twinkling sound in the breeze from "E"s ceiling fan...
As I was tucking her in (and singing our nightly lullaby)
at bedtime tonight, it sounded like the gentle tinkle of fairy songs or mermaids.
Fondly, pink and green mama, MaryLea

Love this!!! Going to have to make this xx
Mermaid treasures are a favorite around here! Love this project!
I ADORE this project. I can't tell you how many seashells we have lying around from various trips to the beach, and we're always looking for something to do with them. We'll be making mobiles, for sure!
Did they all have holes or did you make some? Most of the shells I collect never have holes and I would be afraid to break the whole thing. What do you do for this?
WE collected shells with holes in them for this project -- the ones that don't have holes were just for our collections.
Hi,
We made these and I have posted a link

Your shells have huge natural holes! I could only find 5. Thanks for sharing x
Melodie: We had to drill our shells. We used a powerdrill with a masonry bit. Some were much easier than others and it didn't take long x
So simple and so sweet! We are huge fans of your blog here...craft on!

Since I rarely have an original idea, I am SO thankful I found your blog! We have jars and jars of shells and pieces of driftwood. What a great idea! It also inspired me to hang some from the little lights I like to put around my deck. Thanks for providing such great ideas. I am so glad your share your inspiration.
