Just wanted to thank you all for your awesome ideas. I found a $5 coupe car at a garage sale and painted it purple and green for my daughter. I used plastic primer and regular spray paint, vinyl stickers and clear coat. Thanks again for all the great ideas!

I finally found two Cozy Coupe cars for five bucks each and came back to this saved post that I saw a while back. I think I want to make one look like Lightning McQueen and another into a Strawberry Shortcake mobile. What kind of paint did you use? just spray paint that is good for plastic? Do you coat it with anything? Mine will have a bit of detail work... so I'm trying to figure out how to do the layers if it is all with spray paint... and make sure they will stay for a while at least being outside all the time.

I used the spray paint that "bonds" to plastic.
No primer. It doesn't last forever and it does wear off/chip in high contact areas like the hinges of the doors. For my "detail" work I used stencils and spray paint. Best of luck and have fun!

Hi! We are attempting this for my daughter's 2nd birthday. Did you disassemble the car to paint or did you just tape off the roof/car body when painting different colors?

We painted it assembled -- just used newspaper and tape to block off areas I didn't want painted.
Sounds like a perfect birthday gift!
