The girls and I decided it would be
fun to make our own
Halloween Game.
One that could be played
by all of the members of our
household.
(even the ones who can't read like "C"
and the cats and using materials we had in the house)
We started with two sheets
of stiff black felt
as the gameboards.
Then, we cut out
4 orange felt pumpkins
(with regular Eco-fi Felt)
Then, we cut out an assortment
of eye,
nose,
and mouth
shapes
from black felt.
Then, I made a
dice out of a wooden block
with symbols for
Add 1 eye.
Add a nose.
Add a mouth.
Take off a piece.
(a blank pumpkin)
UPDATE: We changed the Take Off a Piece
to Add a LEAF.
The put one back was causing too much
duress during play! : )
If you roll a piece you've already used,
for example you already have 4 eyes (2 on each pumpkin)
miss a turn and let the other person roll.

Who is going to get both of
their pumpkins finished first?
their pumpkins finished first?
Happy (felt) Pumpkin Making!
P.S. Mamas should definitely be drinking
a pumpkin latte while playing this game!

AWESOME!
what a great idea!
LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing! Kerri
really cute idea
SO cool, this reminds me of a game a colleague of mine invented for teaching 3rd graders capacity. I would like to share it with you: The Gallon Game, where the board is the full gallon. There are pieces for half gallon, quart, pint, and cup, and cards that tell you to add or take away a certain number. The trick was, they had to always convert them, so they could never have 2 pints on the board; they HAD to exchange them for one quart. And when they had a half gallon on their board, and got "take away 1 cup" they had to exchange the half gallon for 1 quart, 1 pint, and 2 cups, so they could take one of those cups away. The winner had two half gallons covering his one gallon board. Chris Giovannelli invented this game at my school, and it helped the kids so much...and us teachers, too! Feel free to share and make, just give her credit is all she ever asked.
Wow Danny!!
That sounds like an awesome game. I need to play it myself so I can get my units of measurement down. My daughter's teacher would love this since they're studying volume this year -- might have to make one for her for Christmas!!
Thanks so much for sharing such a great idea : )

Love it! (And so would my son). I've starred it in my google reader.
I am so excited to try this. It seems like a perfect game to play with the kids even though they are a little young. We're working on body part so this may be a fun way to play. Do you have other suggestions on your blog for the almost 2 and almost 3 age range?
Hi Amy,
To answer your question on my blog about what to do with little ones -- check out my archives list on my lefthand side bar. It breaks down my posts by category -- if you go into my 18mo - 3 years old, 3-5 years, and preschool at home you should find some activities and projects to do (or adapt) with your kids!
Thanks so much for visiting.

too cute, ml!
I made this today. I teach school aged after school child care and it was a rainy day so we did it.
I used foam sheets instead of felt and couldn't find a block for a die so I made a key. They loved designing features and cutting them out.

What a great idea. I don't know if my little guy is ready for the dice yet but I like how you put the separate pieces of the faces on sep. pieces of felt. I was trying to think of a simple way to do a pumpkin felt board. This way we'll be able to use it when he is older too!
Holla Holla ML, what a cute idea. The kindergarten at my school has a similar game they made out of paper. They roll a die to find out how many pieces they can put on.
You are so cool.
This is such a great idea! I shared it over on our blog today.
