We have an embarrassing amount of doll clothes around here.
We have American Girl Doll-sized and Baby Doll outfits
from various places, including several
beautifully handmade outfits
sewn by my very talented Grandmother.
But they were out of control,
tangled and jumbled in heaps in two bins in the
bottom of cabinets in both of my daughter's rooms.
It isn't much fun to play when you can't find
what you have (and you don't know what you have)
(Kind of like getting dressed in the morning
with a closet full of wrong season/wrong size/wrong style clothes...
Not that I would know anything about that!)
So, part of our "Housewide-January-Get-er-Organized Project"
involved tackling the doll clothes situation.
Step one:
Lay out all of the various outfits, accessories, and components
on your daughter's bed then take a photo to publicly shame yourself
and realize you should never buy your daughter another doll outfit ever again.
Step Two:
Gather up some Colored Scrapbook Paper (from a discount/sale pack)
trimmed down on my handy-dandy paper cutter to fit inside
1 Gallon Zip Lock Bags.
Step Three:
Enlist your daughter to help you
insert outfits (with accessories like shoes, barettes, purses)
in each bag.
Two outfits per bag/one for each side of the colored paper divider.
Step Four:
Stack the Outfits (upright) in a storage bin
you already have lying around your house!
Like a filing cabinet for Doll Clothes.
(If you're like me, you have lots of various
baskets and bins stashed in closets and the garage,
purchased with wonderful intentions
of finally getting organized!)
Step Five:
Create Designated areas for
Dolls, Accesories, and the Gigantic Doll Wheel Chair
in a cabinet
with a shelf for the clothing baskets.
Enjoy the satisfaction of an organization job well done
with your daughter!
Ahh.... that's better.
Now, wait till you see what we did with our Barbie Doll clothes!
Fondly,
pink and green mama,

What an amazing idea for keeping your little ones doll clothes organised:) Sometimes I wish we did have heaps of doll things but our girls are not that into dolls...think i will be passing this idea on to a few other mums though.
Great idea my I MEAN MY DAUGHTERS American girl doll clothes are out of control. They are just so darn pretty. Anything rainbow is fun and if I can use it to organize - all the better
that is an amazing idea, but would last about two seconds around here--but you never know, maybe it would work for us?
OMG! I needed this post! Can't wait for the barbie one. We only have like 60! ugh. Can you tell me how you store or where you store dolls, barbies etc?

FABULOUS idea!
I wish I saw this BEFORE we had YEARS AND YEARS of clothes in every corner of the bedroom!
Now I"ll have no excuse to try to organize them!

What a great idea! We don't have the problem with dolls clothes (we don't have many dolls, and they don't get changes of clothes. Hmm, bad mummy! LOL), but I am certainly waiting with baited breath to see what you did with the Barbie clothes! :)
Brilliant! I did something similar with Build A Bear clothes but I didn't think to put the paper in the bag as a divider. Such a great idea. Now I'm off to re-organize!
ohhh my word such a great idea!! We don't have any doll clothes to organize but I will definitely be remembering that if we have a girl someday :-)
I have anxiously been checking back all day to see what you did with the Barbie clothes. I am in need of some inspiration. I love what you did with the doll clothes!

Brilliant!
Doing this! Would you mind if I linked to this post for my blog's Tips & Tricks Tuesday? This is just the sort of thing I love.

Wow--this is actually a really, really great idea. I can see how you might use this for all kinds of things. We have a mess of crazy doll clothes that don't really fit anyone. I think step one for us would be to weed out all the weird, useless stuff...
ohmigosh- you're a genius! i'm not at this stage, yet, but i'm definitely going to remember this! :)
This is a wonderful idea. We have a huge rubbermaid bin full of American girl clothes. Its been a collect 25 years in the making.
Fantastically done. I have just one son, and no doll clothes, but what you have done here still speaks volumes to me. I believe that taking time to store children's toys and possessions well teaches them to respect and value their things. How can you expect any child to appreciate what they have, if it always in a jumbled mess at the bottom of the toybox?
can't wait to show this to my daughter, she'll want to do this ASAP. Her doll clothes are currently shoved into a plastic case that the sheets come in (do you hoard those too? I do! they are great for yarn and fabric scraps, I mean they have a zipper! )
I'm not going to lie - seeing those doll clothes so cutely organized makes me want to play doll dress up...even if all by myself.
brilliant!
Just found and pinned this! You are genius! I had been searching all morning for a way to organize the ever growing pile of doll clothes-THANK YOU!!!!
I will be organizing my daughter's collection with her tomorrow! Thank you for such a fantastic system! Michelle
Ohh I really need to do this!!! My daughters closet is full of storage containers full of the same things and its always a mess!!!! THANK YOU!!!
