* Snow Day Craft: Pom-Pom Milk Shakes!

Today we're having a snow day.
Everyone's home -- daddy's office is without power so he's trying to work at the kitchen island.
The girls and I are crafting and playing!

I used to make these when I was a little girl --
Pom-Pom Milkshakes and Smoothies for my dolls.
Today was the perfect day to introduce them to my own girls.
They're a huge hit!!

They're fun for stuffed animal friends, Barbies, and American Girl dolls!

First we needed straws.
So, I cut 3"x3" pieces of white paper for the girls.
We drew a stripe on the edge of two sides.

Note: You can also cut little skinny cocktail straws from the party store
but we like to make our own with paper.

Then, you roll it up and add a dab of glue.

Trim off the pointy edges with scissors.
You can use craft glue, tape runner (double sided tape) or glue gun to secure the edge.

Here's a pile of "straws" waiting to be trimmed.
You could also cut down those skinny coffee stirring straws but we didn't have any.

We used old children's medicine cups and lids from things like spray-on sunblock
(I always save them for projects like this!)

We secured each straw with a dab of glue inside the cup.
I used a glue gun so we wouldn't have to wait for them to dry
but you can also use craft glue if you're willing to wait!

Then, the girls picked out the combinations of pom-pom colors they wanted to use
and we secured them inside each cup with more glue.

We added bead sprinkles, bead cherries, and "real" sprinkles with glue to
the tops of the pom-pom milkshakes!

The "Catsby Family" has been visiting my old Barbie McDonalds
and ordering shakes all morning.

We just might have to make some real milkshakes too!

"Rosie" cat and "Bently" cat love their shakes!

The whole "Catsby family" on the road with their shakes.
Happy (Snowy) Play-Day!!

I love this idea. Heart Family car brings back many fun memories from my childhood. I love how many animals she squeezes into the car.

I made the milkshakes as a kid, too. When we wanted to make smaller versions, we asked for Communion cups on Sunday. I never knew how to make straws. That was SO clever. Thanks for another inspiring blog.

@ Mommy Mindy -- We used to use Communion cups too when I was a little girl and I think we cut up cocktail straws but the medicine cups worked out just fine!! : )

Am thinking that little hairspray bottle caps would be fun for smaller Barbie versions!

: )
