* Smart Summer Challenge: Week One- Me On the Map Linky Party!

Show us how you're having a Smart Summer!

I've been sharing my family's Smart Summer activities this week: Life-Sized Body Maps, Homemade Light Table Transparencies, Bone Gloves, and All About Me Eye Spice Rice Bottles

We'd love for you to share your ideas--you can add a link to a post on your blog or even a photo set on Flickr or any types of publicly viewable "journal" entry on a social media or community site.

Not a blogger? If you do not have access to posting entries on any public site, you can also leave a comment on this post, sharing the learning opportunities you incorporated into your week with your children.

Your post (or comment) can be something from your archives that speaks to our
theme for the week (Me on the Map
or it can just be a general post about how you are fitting fun learning into your summer activities. You can find our weekly themes on our calendar of ideas but ANY learning activities, big or small, are welcomed!

Just add your link(s) (as many relevant links as you would like) to a specific post or page (i.e. http://www.naturallyeducational.com/2011/06/fight-the-summer-slide-with-the-smart-summer-challenge/ NOT http://www.naturallyeducational.com) to the link widget below.

Every link you enter in the widget below (or your comment) during the week will also enter you to win our AWESOME prize of the week: $100 to the local bookstore or toy store of your choice from Juice in the City.

Oh shoot! I missed the Linky Party (I thought it started Friday morning.) Just wanted to say that we had a great time with our Smart Summer Challenge this week, and I wanted to share my link. :)

This week we did not follow the Me on the Map theme, because we were gearing up for Canada Day and Independence Day (my kids' father is American and I am Canadian and so we generally make a big deal of the patriotic holidays.

We have been reading our Canada and America themed stories including a great Canadian alphabet book. We have been looking at the map of North America and having our young daughter point out which one is Canada and which one is America. We've also been doing some colouring and painting with red, white, and blue, and identifying maple leafs in pictures. It's been a fun week! Thanks for inspiring us to participate

We have been learning this week, I just have not followed the calender because I just found out about this. My first link is to a post in my archives. It was exactly a year ago that I posted about our X lesson where we mapped our house. WE will probably do it again when we are up to X again. Which should be sometime this summer.

I really hope I am doing the right thing by sharing these old posts. The next one I linked up to was from Jan 2010 when we used the map of our town that we had made and walked to the thrift shop and store.

My kids had such a great time doing these activities! They were so anxious to see what the next activity would be. They really enjoyed mapping our house and spent two days working on it. Some great learning was happening this week! :)
