* Preschool At Home: Fall Sensory Box

First, I have to apologize for these crummy photos...
it was too dark when I took them and I really don't like the way
that half-peeled label looks on the side of the sensory box.
Moving along...

Here is this year's Fall Sensory Box.
"C" helped me put it together.
It's filled with dried green split peas
(the same kind we used in our Apple Sensory Box)
Here's a link to last year's Fall Sensory Box.

But these are "scented" with a dash of cinnamon and allspice.
A few real cinnamon sticks add to the yummy smells!

There are two small wooden scoops from the craft store,
a small wooden bucket,
a Target Dollar Bin craft foam tree and scarecrow (from this year),
and a small wooden rake from a Dollar Tree Zen Garden set.
We also have some silk and felt "faux" leaves from the craft store
and some faux gourds and pumpkins from Dollar Tree.

The small "flower pots" on the right side of this picture
are silicone baking cups from Wilton (also a craft store purchase last spring)
She sorted "glass" acorns from Michaels (purchased last year) into the cups
by size and color.

"C" (age 4) thought the Polly Pocket princesses needed to frolic in the leaves.
She's been having great fun in her Fall Sensory Box!
(pssst..her big sister (age 8) has been known to play in it on occasion as well!)

Happy Playing and Exploring!

Fondly,
Pink and Green Mama

Marylea,
Hi! I love it! That is such a great idea! It could have been made with little guy's toys, too!

I have to say, I love your blog! I have really been combing through it to find fun projects for this winter when we are stuck inside. I just recently made my first sensory tub and did an autumn theme.

hello! I'm curious what you do with the box when you're "done" with it?? do you have multiple sensory boxes all the time or do you make it and then "break it down" say, if the holiday has passed? Thank you! (i'm new to all of this...love the idea of the sensory box but just unsure of their "shelf life" if that makes sense).

Hi Anonymous,

I store the supplies for our sensory boxes on a shelf in our garage. There are a couple of plastic storage boxes with the various components stored in gallon zip lock bags. We use the storage boxes to hold the bags of stuff because we have mice and it keeps everything dust proof. I rotate the boxes and their contents. I usually have 1 o 2 boxes going at a time in the playroom. I asked the girls last week if we're done with sensory boxes (thinking I could get my storage shelves back) and they said not yet, they still like them! And for the record my oldest is 9 and still likes to play in them. : )

Hope this helps!
MaryLea
