When I was a little girl, I always decorated my Barbie house
for Christmas. I had a tiny tree and a few ornaments but that was about it.
I was telling the girls this last week while we were putting up our own Christmas tree.
One of our favorite books is "Big Susan" and we love the way
they decorate the doll house for Christmas.
"E" couldn't wait to decorate our own Barbie house
and got to work right away.
First, she made tiny paper chains with
bits of construction paper, Christmas-themed scrapbook paper and scotch tape.
Then, the girls set up a little tree from our Fairy house
with a few tiny ornaments and a paper doily for the tree skirt.
The table is set with plum pudding, a ham, and some hot cocoa!
The girls raided my vintage doily and hankie stash to
update the house with more "Christmasy" linens and rugs.
Tiny string lights and fuzzy green yarn were used as garland on the balcony.
Then, mommy joined the crafty fun and
we all cut out some tiny paper snowflakes
to tape up on the windows!
I love them. : )
Why didn't I do that when I was little?!
This is "Holly" our Christmas Barbie.
She and "Jingle" (our Elf on the Shelf) are always happy to be reunited
the day after Thanksgiving.
They're snuggling on the couch, by the fire with some hot cocoa.
"E" decided they need some stockings so she made two little paper
one and taped them up on the fireplace.
Wishing you and yours a
warm and happy holiday season!
Fondly,
Pink and Green Mama

I'm smiling! I don't know when I've been so tickled about a post. This reminds me of my daughter when she was this age, and how she decorated her Barbi house too. And isn't it delightful!? Sometimes it's good to remember how kids love their toys and how to incorporate them into "art" and "play". Oh sure, we know Barbi is a commercial toy, but who can deny the wonder and creativity of this fabulous work of art!! I love the elf and how he and Barbi seem to be Christmas friends.
Thanks MaryAnn!!
It's fun to relive my own childhood with my girls.
I owe you a phone call or email! : )

very cute! I had a friend when I was a child that one time used the wrappers from the christmas hershey’s kisses (red, green and silver foil) as decorations in her dollhouse.

I love this. It's awesome.
Oh my gosh, this is the cutest thing ever! My daughter is itty bitty, but when she gets a little older, I am going to remember this. Thanks for sharing such a sweet post!
I love this! I can't wait until my daughter is bigger and we can do this. :)
Such a great idea! I'm going to suggest this to my girls this afternoon. I think they'd love to decorate their doll houses.
Also, can I just say how happy I am to be commenting on the same page as MaryAnn F. Kohl? I used her books to help me teach art camps when I was in University, then when I was teaching elementary school and now I'm using them with my daughters. We have two of her books on our shelf!
@ Julie -- It's a small world, I also had MaryAnn's books on my classroom shelves and they're still in my art studio today! It has been VERY fun getting to know her and work with her on my next big secret project! ; )

cutest christmas post i had ever seen!!!
Oh my goodness! My daughter and I oohed and awwwed while we read this post- so adorable. I never decorated Barbie's house when I was little- what fun! :)
This is SO cute. My kids have their Breyer horse barn out right now (we rotate toys every couple months) and we've talked about decorating it for Christmas. i thought I'd crochet some quick wreaths for the stall doors, and add some glitter felt to the roof for snow. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having as much fun as they are!
Oh my gosh that is so much fun! Drat you, now I want to go do that too, thanks for sharing this!
I love the idea of decorating Barbie's house for Christmas. Great post!
This is SO cute...I love the decorations, like the tiny paper chain!
I also love the picture with Jingle and Barbie sitting on the couch. I love how Jingle is looking to the side right at Barbie! Nice photos!
Oh my goodness, this is amazing! I don't know why I never thought of this since one of my favorite things to do as a child was decorate my dollhouse for Christmas. My daughter would LOVE to do this... Your girls' decorations are amazing and I've never seen such a nice barbie house either.
I just recently discovered your blog and am just amazed by all of your wonderful ideas. I know that I'll be spending a lot more time, "hanging out," here. I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award:http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2011/12/most-versitile-blogger-award.html
This is such a sweet idea! I especially love that the girls have a 1980's Barbie house! I have mine in my grandma's basement just waiting for my daughter! :o)
